Fakaalofa Atu from Oma Tafua – Greetings from To Treasure Whales Today is a significant one in the life of the Sm when the crew for NZ arrive and we get started on the return voyage. It’s an interesting situation when the 4 crew have not met before. However all the crew want to do the passage and expectations are we will work together well. The Sm started the day at 5am and earlier for the crew leaving Auckland – while they negotiated the departure procedures,(Martin had some fun convincing NZ authorities he was leaving Niue on the FalconGT – the what?? – that’s not a boat -it’s car!!) the Sm was at the Markete bargaining for greens, coconuts and chatting up the locals, plus the palangis. Mission accomplished, and resisting the tempting coconut crabs – the uga- the Sm polished up the boat and himself before going to the airport. The airport has a brand new concrete runway and a large open sided timber waiting area where local ladies sold jewellry and cold drinks from chilly-bins – not an uga in sight – Jason was the first to appear and we chatted with Ian and Annie from Niue Dive until Michael and Martin turned up. Then we all chatted to Auntie Roz, and piled in the car – Pauline kissed the Sm to gasps from the onlookers and off we went to the boat – the TTSoPAc made only 3 trips and all was well. Cool drinks on board and then we decided to leave in the morning as today was FRIDAY! – no need to jinx ourselves so we tooled down to Limu for a spot of cool snorkelling. It was a tad cold – seemed to be a lot of cold fresh water in the mix – saw a sea cucmber, anenomies and the old electric blue fish. A quick fresh water shower and we were good to go to town for dinner. We picked the 5 star French joint just past the yacht club, and ordered from their extensive cellar – special vintage sprite and coke and the fish of the day with fries – we had intended to go to Falala Fa resto but it was closed, however their chef was at our resto so all was well. Early night on the boat snoozing in the gentle breeze of a Niue tropical night. Tomorrow we start our new sailing adventure.
